The attachment contains the manual installation instructions for MyEclipse. They are identical to the instructions contained in the manual installation download, but by providing them separately it is a bit easier for users to see how simple the process is, a priori.

How to manually install MyEclipse on linux? The Guide attached in the thread only make references to Windows OS.

I try installing myeclipse(Eclipse SDK Version: 3.1.2 + MyEclipse 4.1.1 GA) as the same way in windows os, ie, software update-->manage configuration --> Add --> Extension Locations... --> Choose the fold unzip from [MyEclipse Enterprise Workbench Version 4.1.1 GA Manual Install (03/02/2006)]. It simply can't detect the plugins in that folder and then restart automatically as Windows installation.

Can anyone point me out what's wrong with it?

thx.

MyEclipse 5.0 requires Eclipse 3.2 due to changes in the Eclipse API's and will not function on Eclipse 3.1.2. For Eclipse 3.1.2 only Eclipse 4.1.1 can be used.

Hello ,

in FAQ topic (http://www.myeclipseide.com/PNphpBB2+file-viewtopic-t-10270.html) there is a reference to the manual install as a way to 'silently' install myeclipse.
But the installation instruction (step 5 & 6) ask to finish the install by doing some manual acticonfiguration using the eclipse GUI. which in my eyes can not really classify as 'silent' install.

Does anyone know a way to make also this last step scriptable? Maybe by editing some property files of eclipse? (eclipse\configuration\org.eclipse.update\platform.xml seems to be a candidate for this)

We have a corporate lisence for myeclipse and I want to install myeclipse unattended. I had no permission to comment on the FAQ part, so I hope this is the right place for this question...

Post subject: Manually installing from a regular distribution.
Hi,

I just managed to manually install from the Linux-version of MyEclipse. Here is how it goes:

Open a shell (=terminal) and cd to the directory of the EnterpriseWorkbenchinstaller-XXX.bin file.

Type:

chmod 755 ./EnterpriseWorkbenchinstaller-XXX.bin
export LAX_DEBUG=1
./EnterpriseWorkbenchinstaller-XXX.bin

now, it at least extracts the data to some place in the /tmp directory, which is printed in the debug output, like so:

Creating installer data directory: /tmp/install.dir.12025

Now, cd to that directory.

then,
cd InstallerData

There should be a zip file (installer.zip or so). unzip it:

unzip ./installer.zip

then there is lots of lots of files which we do not need. But there is a BIG .jar file like 130MB or so, which contains the MyEclipse itself, on my distribution it is in

C_/dev/workspaces/myeclipse3.1-production-build/ViperInstallation/work/feature_install.

relateive to where you are now ..

create a eclipse directory somewhere (*not* inside the eclipse IDE itself, as outlined in the install instructions). For example:

sudo mkdir /opt/MyEclpise-X.X
sudo mkdir /opt/MyEclpise-X.X/eclipse

unzip the jar file into that eclipse directory (jar files are zip files with .jar extension)

cd /opt/MyEclpise-X.X/eclipse
unzip /tmp/install.dir.XXX/InstallerData/C_/ ... /eclipse_zg_ia_sf.jar

Then select the eclipse directory as extension location in Eclipse IDE.

This saves you another 145MB download !!

(I'm assume that for MacOS and Windows there's a similar trick to get this working).

Johannes and Others,
You can work around all these steps by simply downloading the "Manual Install", it's the 4th link down on the download page, it's simply a ZIP file of MyEclipse, nothing else. You just download, and unzip, then add it as an extension to Eclipse... viola.

Yes but I wanted to save 2 hours of downloading 140MB .. maybe this information is useful to others who want to save extra 2 hours if not please ignore and download the .zip file.

Johannes,

The download servers have been running at a sustained 80Mbps transfer rate due to the demand. Downloading with hundreds of other users doing
exactly the same thing is simply a bit slower during peak loads. Don't know if it makes you feel better or not, but I'm pulling a build now with 600
users online and am seeing a transfer rate of over 700KB/sec (5.5+ Mbps). Transfer rates will definately vary by path to the servers etc. I'm located in Texas and our distribution servers are at our ISP in Missouri, so it's not like I'm on the same network or anything. However, during peak load this morning I was only getting 225KB/sec (1.7 Mbps), which is much slower due to the load.

Yes and no.

Yes, from the standpoint of any active MyEclipse subscription is valid for use on any version of MyEclipse. So, if you purchased MyEclipse 4.1, you can download and install MyEclipse 5.1 in another location, enter your 4.1 subscription code, and you're good to go. In fact, you can install both versions at the same time without conflict, provided you install them in differnt locations (which is mandatory). To try out 5.1 I'd suggest using the "All-in-one" installer for ease of install; one download, point it to one directory, and you're done.

And no, because MyEclipse 5.1 is based on Eclipse 3.2.1 and MyEclipse 4.1 is based on Eclipse 3.1. The problem with doing a real "update" throught the update manager is that the Eclipse update manager won't allow an upgrade to a new major release level. So, it won't allow a 4.x of anything to be upgraded to a 5.x of anything. That's why I suggested just doing a new install. Besides, between the two releases every single plugin and feature got updated anyway so a full install will likely be faster than an update even if it was possible.

Hope that helps.

Post subject: Trial dialog chained with MyEclipse restart message block
Hi,
I've just installed MyEclipse 5.5 M1 but i'm getting a blocking problem because of the chaining of 2 dialog windows: Trial suscription message, and another one asking for an Eclipse restart.

At the moment i open Eclipse, there are this 2 windows. The first I'm allowed to close is the one asking me for a workbench restar. It says I need to click Ok to restart. Then the one remembering me about my comming end of trial period is just unclickable but neither elements in the workbench respond. It's the common behavior for an opne pop up dialog, needing to close the dialog in order i can get control on the workbench. The problem is that the open pop up dialog window (the Trial reminder one) can't be closed because it doesn't react to clicks!!!!!

I tried with a new Eclipse installation but got the same results. The problem is with the trail dialog. So you may replicate the problem by installing Myeclipse 5.1 trial. Then I don't know the days needed to get the comming expiration reminder, but when that moment happen disable the 5.1 version or install a fresh eclipse copy and then manual install version 5.5 M1. Bingo, you got a bloking problem same way as me :'(

Please help me!!!!!

Greeting.

Hey All,
I am running Ubuntu 6.10, eclipse 3.2, and MyEclipse 5.1. I unzipped the manuall install files to a directory and then added it via the method in the documentation... Help-->Software Updates-->Manage Configuration...ect.

Everything works, however, when I start eclipse from the launcher I created, a popup appears telling me to restart eclipse in order to complete the installation. After eclipse restarts everything is fine. It isnt a huge deal, just a little annoying. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, what did you do to solve?

Thanks In Advance,

Post subject: Manual Install Instructions
For experienced users only, here is the quick version of the installation instructions. Most users will want to read the more detailed version, below.
Check that your system meets the minimum requirements (web server, PHP5 (do not use 5.3.1), and either MySQL4 (and later) or PostgreSQL 8.1 (and later)).
Download MediaWiki (direct link to latest version) and extract the archive to a web-accessible folder on your server.
Point your browser to the config directory (e.g., http://localhost/mediawiki/config/index.php).
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
These instructions are deliberately brief. There is a lot that could go wrong, so if in any doubt, you are advised to read the full instructions below.

Jean,

Can you answer below queries -
1. Can you copy and paste the installation details of ME 8.5 and 8.6. Open MyEclipse IDE, from menu options click on MyEclipse > Installation Summary > Installation Details.
2. Can you remove the deployment.
3. Perform -clean. Refer - http://www.myeclipseide.com/PNphpBB2-viewtopic-t-10280.html
4. Add the deployment
5. You mention that you have setup JDK 5. Is this your default JDK? If not, do the following - go to Window > Preferences > Java > Installed JREs. Add JDK 1.5 and set as default.

In case this issue persists, can you look into the problems tab and check what is the issue reported? Also look into your .log file and check for relevant issues logged. Your .log file is located at [your workspace]/.metadata/.log. Can you elaborate on what is the type of project, and the detailed steps so that I can replicate this issue at my end?

I notice that you are on an old build. I would recommend you to do update your ME8.6. This update is available from Help > MyEclipse Configuration Center > Dashboard tab > software updates. click on "Apply Changes" to get the new update.
Please verify the build-id is updated as
Version: 8.6
Build id: 8.6-20100806
Let me know the issue still persists.
